Sitting is the default posture for so many daily activities but I never challenged that assumption until I could no longer do it. Being unable to sit means I have trouble getting around, working, and socializing. Avoiding sitting is a commitment, but I’ve gotten better with practice.
I am happy to share the tips and strategies that work for me. However, I realize that what works for me may not be practical or desirable for everyone. The terms “sitting disability” and “sciatica” both encompass a range of symptoms, causes, and capabilities. And living situations vary greatly from person to person. So take these pages with as many grains of salt as you like, and feel free to disregard any ideas that do not work in your personal situation. As always, you are the best judge of what will work for you.
